Deepa Srinivasan, L.Ac, M.D. (AM) is an alternative medicine professional. She has trained in California and China for the therapies that she practices. She believes in the whole-person wellness concept and makes way for the mind-body connection. In her words, “When a new patient visits my clinic, it is often the case that they have made the decision to receive acupuncture but are still wondering about whether it will work—and sometimes still a little unsure if it will hurt. Immediately they discover acupuncture is not painful, and over the course of a few treatments they experience firsthand how powerful it is. For a holistic healing approach, each of the sessions is tailored to fit the unique needs of our clients. So, no two sessions are the same for the clients.
Acupuncture is one of the branches of Traditional Oriental Medicine (TOM). Acupuncture involves the use of small, sterile needles (about as thin as a human hair) inserted shallowly into the skin at specific points on the body. Qi (pronounced: chee) is the universal life energy, it is carried throughout the body in channels called meridians and is accessed through the acupuncture points. This treatment can help to move, strengthen, or balance the Qi. Each acupuncture treatment is tailored to the body's individual needs.
Shiatsu translates as ‘finger pressure’ and is based on traditional Japanese massage. The therapist applies pressure applied using fingers, thumbs, palms and elbows and combine it with other techniques. Guided by their experience & knowledge of physiology and traditional medicine practitioners tailor the depth of pressure and techniques used to help you get the most out of your treatment.
The pressure points used are the same as those used in acupuncture, but there are no needles involved.
Immediately after the session you might be less stressed and achy, or feel relaxed, rejuvenated and full of energy. The effects are individual and change over time, for example, you may be sleepy immediately after the session, then full of energy in the next few days.
This is perfectly normal part of the healing process and with a bit of rest you can find yourself in a much better place.
You remain fully clothed during this treatment, so do wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothes, such as a T-shirt or sweatshirt and a pair of tracksuit bottoms or leggings, together with a pair of socks. You can change at the clinic if you prefer.
To create suction on the body surface, we use cups. These cups are moved over the skin using gliding, shaking, popping and rotating techniques while gently pulling up on the cup, or may be parked for a short time to facilitate joint mobilization or soft tissue release. This reaches deep into the soft tissue, attachments and organs. Another benefit is to pull toxins and inflammation from the body to the surface of the skin where the lymphatic system can easily eliminate them.
It helps sedate the nervous system which makes it an excellent treatment for high blood pressure.
Like acupuncture, cupping follows the lines of the meridians. There are five meridian lines on the back, and these are where the cups are usually placed.
Electrotherapy aims to stimulate the body's healing processes by sending electrical impulses through the channels, muscles and nerves. Electrical stimulation is most commonly associated with pain management as it promotes the release of endogenous neurotransmitters such as beta-endorphin, a natural analgesic. Additionally electrotherapy can be effective for treating Bi syndromes (rheumatic and arthritic conditions), channel stagnation and musculoskeletal trauma.
Trigger Point Dry Needling is an effective therapy to treat muscular tension and spasm which commonly accompanies conditions such as arthritis, nerve irritation, muscular strain, sports injuries.
In Trigger Point Dry Needling, we use needles which are inserted in a contracted painful knotted muscle to create a local twitch reflex which is both diagnostic and therapeutic as it is the first step in breaking the pain cycle as research shows will decrease muscle contraction, reduce chemical irritation, improve flexibility and decrease pain. The cut muscle fibres produce an inflammatory reaction that your body will respond to not just locally but all over the body to reduce inflammation systemically.

Acupuncture has a very positive effect on depression by changing the brain’s mood chemistry. This works along with conventional medical treatments such as anti-depressants.
Based on an ancient traditional Chinese therapy, acupuncture stimulates key points on the body to re-balance the flow of energy. This is done with needles and we also use cupping and moxa for maximising your healing.
Acupuncture also used to treat
And now for the question: “Does acupuncture hurt?”
The answer is no! Acupuncture is quick and painless.
The needles used are very fine, much thinner than those used for injections.
The goal of this dynamic and integrated health care system is to activate the natural/self-healing abilities of the body.
Acupuncture is safe, natural, drug-free and effective.

It is common for high stress environments to take a toll on even veteran employees and affect their ability to finish projects or make deadlines. We know that the companies have their working norms as a minimum of 8–10 hours of sedentary work. You and I also know that sitting and no activity is a bad combination. The result ending in weak muscles, poor circulation/digestion, a bad back, strained neck and a hazy brain to top this list.
How do we bridge the between work–life balance?
We recommend acupuncture. Ask us how will acupuncture help? And we request you to try one session. Clinical research has documented acupuncture’s biomedical effects. It has been proved that acupuncture regulates the nervous system, aids the endorphin activity and boosts the immunity system. Acupuncture has been shown to reduce stress and anxiety, increase energy and concentration, and boost the immune system.
In a report, Acupuncture: Review and Analysis of Reports on Controlled Clinical Trials, the World Health Organization (WHO) has recognized certain conditions, which, through clinical trials, are proved to be effectively treated by acupuncture.

On your first visit you arrive a few minutes early to fill out paperwork and the practitioner will spend some time with you answering and asking questions.
In your second session, the practitioner performs a treatment and you lay back and relax. Some people even fall asleep. In acupuncture, the length of time the needles are left in ranges between 20 to 30 minutes. When your treatment is done, your acupuncturist will come in and take your needles out. At the end of your treatment your acupuncturist will talk to you about your treatment plan.
Acupuncture is pain-free. A small pinch may be felt upon insertion of the needle. Some people report feeling a tingling sensation or pressure at the location of the needle, others report feeling nothing.
Clinical studies have documented acupuncture’s biomedical effects. It has been found that acupuncture regulates the nervous system, aiding the activity of endorphins and immune system cells at specific points throughout the body.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved acupuncture needles for use by licensed practitioners in 1996. The FDA requires that sterile, nontoxic needles be used and that they be labeled for single use by qualified practitioners only.
Yes! Acupuncture is extremely effective at bringing the body into balance and strengthening the immune system.
A typical treatment will include a patient intake, placement of acupuncture needles, and possible application of adjunctive modalities such as moxibustion and cupping. After the treatment, exercise or dietary recommendations are made if indicated.
A usual course of treatment is 12 to 15 treatments. While individual healing responses vary, acute conditions tend to resolve more quickly and chronic conditions need more time and patience. Most people feel some relief from symptoms after the third or fourth treatments. However a good rule of thumb for chronic conditions; it takes one month of treatments for every year you have had the condition. Please be patient with your body as it works to find health and balance.
People experience acupuncture needling differently. Most patients feel only minimal pain as the needles are inserted; some feel no pain at all. Once the needles are in place, there is no pain felt. Acupuncture needles are very thin and solid and are made from stainless steel. The point is smooth (not hollow with cutting edges like a hypodermic needle) and insertion through the skin is not as painful as injections or blood sampling. The risk of bruising and skin irritation is less than when using a hollow needle.
Because we uses sterile and disposable needles, there is no risk of infection from the treatments.
